Oil Change Service, the heart of Car Maintenance

Regular oil and filter changes are required to keep “the blood” of your engine in top lubricating condition. With today’s oil change intervals becoming further apart, it is critical that the oil and filter be changed on time to make sure that it can handle all the stresses placed on it when you drive. Especially driving around in the Wheat Ridge, Highlands, and Sloans Lake area.

What engine oil does is lubricate your engine, protecting the abrasive metal on metal contact of the internal components. It also keeps the engine interior clean, picking up dirt and debris entering from the environment through the Air Box, or internal wearing of components. It keeps moisture from corroding internal parts, and cycles heat away from critical areas in the engine.

Although, today’s modern cars and oil do much more than that- they can determine how your vehicle is fueled, significantly affecting fuel economy, or even determining raw performance and power through systems like VVT. Without oil, there is no engine (unless you’re an old Honda or Toyota, they were indestructible), so it’s vital to ensure you’re changing your oil within your specified intervals to increase the life-time longevity of your vehicle. If you have a Honda and you’re slightly past due, you may be lucky and be fine, if you’re a Jeep in the same situation and it’s a common occurrence, more times than not you may need a motor. All to say, make sure you’re getting those regular oil changes on time.

The reality is, over time the oil’s ability to do its job decreases, resulting in increased engine wear, sludge build up, and other nasty things. So it’s necessary to always keep up with routine maintenance to prevent your oil from doing this.

Another item to consider is that though engines are designed not to, some oil can be used and burned internally, even in a perfectly running engine. With oil change intervals being around 5,000 miles, this burning of oil can lead to a decreased amount circulating through the engine making it harder to function properly. Worst case scenario, the oil can get so low that your engine will starve for oil causing permanent internal damage. So if you’re not a fan of buying a new motor every year, we highly suggest at least two oil changes a year instead. Even if the vehicle is not driven more than 5,000 miles in a year, it’s still important to get the oil changed at bare minimum once a year.
